Stain-only service for decks that don't need full sanding.
Your deck's structure is fine — the surface just needs work. We sand away years of wear, apply premium stain, and make your deck look and feel brand new.
Get a Free EstimateIf your deck looks gray, rough, and worn out but the structure underneath is still solid, you don't need a new deck — you need refinishing. A full sand-and-restain brings the surface back to life at a fraction of the cost of rebuilding.
Every wood species behaves differently in Georgia's climate. Pressure-treated pine grays and splinters, cedar turns silver without oil, and hardwoods like ipe can look almost black if they're not maintained. The sanding grit, prep technique, and stain type all need to match the species — a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't hold up here.
We always inspect the structure first — refinishing over damaged wood is pointless. If the frame needs work, we'll tell you before we touch a sander. The FAQs below cover how to tell whether your deck needs refinishing, staining, resurfacing, or replacement.

Common questions about deck refinishing. Need more info? Give us a call.
Get a Free EstimateDeck refinishing is the full process: sanding the entire surface to remove old finish and damaged wood, cleaning, and then applying new stain. Deck staining is just the coating step — cleaning and applying stain without sanding. If your deck has peeling stain, gray oxidation, splinters, or rough texture, it needs refinishing. If the existing surface is still smooth and just needs a fresh coat of protection, staining alone may be enough.
Check the structure. Push a screwdriver into the joists, beams, and posts — if it sinks in easily, the wood is rotting and you may need repairs or a rebuild. If the frame is solid and the damage is limited to the surface (graying, splintering, worn stain), refinishing will make it look new again. We offer free inspections and will tell you honestly which route makes sense.
Most projects run between $3 and $6 per square foot, depending on the deck's condition, size, and how much prep is needed. A typical 300 sq ft deck costs $900-$1,800 for a full sand-and-restain. Decks with heavy old stain buildup or significant surface damage may run higher. We provide a detailed quote after inspecting your deck.
With a quality penetrating stain, a refinished deck typically looks great for 2-3 years before needing a maintenance coat. The sanding and proper prep means the stain penetrates deeper and bonds better, so it lasts longer than just slapping stain over a dirty surface. Annual cleaning with a garden hose helps extend the finish life.
Composite decks don't get refinished the same way wood decks do — they can't be sanded and restained. If a composite deck is faded or stained, we can clean it with specialized composite cleaners and in some cases apply a composite-specific coating. If the boards are truly worn out, deck resurfacing with new composite boards is usually the better option.
